Feature Article in The Fountain

Adenine, Scottish composer, harpist, vocalist and sound recorder Ailie Robertson under the moniker has just released a new record about nature and our place in the landscape. The self-titled debut is an ode to Scottish nature and lost language, an intriguing addition to this years list of albums. Adenine/Ailie spoke with The Fountain about what we can expect from the LP as well as the rest of the year from her.

TF: You have a new LP out, what can we expect from your self-titled debut? 

It’s a series of rich, multi-layered soundscapes created using an electric harp, a myriad of pedals, field recordings and a modular synth. 

TF: How would you sum it up in one sentence?

Post-classical Minimalism, accented by a melancholic melodic sensibility that channels my Scottish folk roots. 

TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this album release?

I still have a few gigs in Italy and Germany in the diary, so I am keeping fingers crossed they will still happen, but otherwise, I’ll be hunkering down and writing some new material through the winter. 

TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging? 

An Tobar on the Isle of Mull is definitely high up there for me – always such a warm welcome, an intimate audience and a beautiful location. Getting back to gigging anywhere again would be a dream – I miss the road life a lot! But for me, touring in Iceland would be an absolute dream.
